Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have beach access?
Yes. Guests have direct access from the property to the rocky shoals on the south side of Quadra Island via a clearly marked, well-maintained trail. The walk down takes about 3–5 minutes. The return walk includes a noticeable elevation gain and is a bit more cardio-affirming, but very doable for most guests. This is a proper trail—not rough or overgrown—and gallery photos show both the route and the shoreline.

What’s the weather like on Quadra Island?
Quadra’s mild coastal climate is a major part of its appeal.

  • Summer (June–September): Warm, dry, and comfortable, with daytime temperatures typically in the low-20s °C and cooler evenings. Long daylight hours and low humidity make this the most popular season.

  • Spring: Fresh greenery, wildflowers, active birdlife, and warming days—quieter and vibrant.

  • Fall: Often still mild and calm, with golden light, fewer visitors, and excellent conditions for hiking and beach walks.

  • Winter: Cooler and wetter, with Pacific storms that can be dramatic and beautiful. Weather can occasionally affect ferry service and, more rarely, power. The home is equipped with a wood stove and a backup generator for basic amenities, and many guests find storm watching to be a memorable part of the experience.

What about sounds, smells, allergens, and overall noise levels?
Leecroft Haven is a small-scale, eco-sustaining farmstead, somewhere between a working farm and a hobby farm, designed to support a slower, more connected way of living.

We raise animals such as chickens and turkeys, and at times pigs (and roosters, which do announce themselves). Seasonal produce and fresh eggs may be available, and some guests enjoy simple activities like collecting eggs. Earplugs are provided for lighter sleepers.

Natural sounds are part of the setting—owls at night, frogs in spring, and birds throughout the day. Distant marine traffic may occasionally be audible across the water but is generally subtle.
Because the property is surrounded by forest, fields, and shoreline, seasonal allergens such as pollen can occur and are not something we can control for.

Can I expect to see wildlife?
Yes—wildlife sightings are common and varied. Guests often see seals, diverse shore life, and occasionally sea lions along the shoreline. Deer regularly wander across the property. Birdlife is abundant and includes eagles, owls, cranes, and ducks. Very occasionally, guests may glimpse or hear a wolf, though sightings are rare and should be considered a bonus.

Is there anything to do on Quadra Island? Are amenities nearby?
Yes. Quadra Island is one of the more populated islands in the Discovery Passage and is largely self-sufficient.

The island offers coffee shops, a pub, restaurants, local eateries, a seasonal vineyard, grocery stores, fuel, and essential services, including a local credit union.

Outdoor activities are a major draw and include kayaking, hiking, cycling, mountain biking, rock climbing (notably at the Chinese Mountains), and excellent fishing, with local guided fishing charters available.

What about cell service and Wi-Fi?
Cell service is generally good and supported by major Canadian networks.
Wi-Fi is available at the farmhouse and accessible in many areas across the property. That said, Leecroft Haven is designed as a place to disconnect and unwind. We do not guarantee high-bandwidth or property-wide coverage suitable for commercial or mission-critical remote work.

Do you provide cribs, high chairs, or family-friendly items?
Yes. We provide a Pack ’n Play (crib/playpen) and a high chair at no additional cost.

We also supply basic kitchen condiments such as salt, pepper, and cooking oil. Guests are asked to bring their own personal toiletries, including shampoo and specialty items.

Is the kitchen fully stocked?
Yes. The kitchen is fully equipped to comfortably serve larger groups, with complete cookware, dishes, utensils, and ample counter space for shared meal preparation.

Are laundry facilities available?
Yes. Laundry facilities are available on a complimentary basis for stays of four nights or longer.

Farm activities and products
Yes. A short, complimentary orientation is available on arrival (or shortly after) to help guests get settled and oriented.

Longer guided experiences—such as a walk of the full grounds, introductions to the animals, guidance to beach access, and a historical walkabout—are available by arrangement and at an additional cost.

We also offer farm products directly from Leecroft, subject to season and availability. Examples may include fresh eggs from our resident hens and seasonal fruits and vegetables, grown with ecological care.
Please reach out in advance if you’re interested in farm products or guided experiences.

Are pets welcome?
Yes. We welcome a limited number of dogs, by prior arrangement, and at an additional cost and deposit.

For the safety of farm animals, wildlife, and all guests, dogs must remain on leash at all times while on the property. This is required due to local area rules and to prevent negative interactions with animals and wildlife. Please contact us before booking if you wish to bring a dog.
